Congrats Jason and Steph!

Jason and Steph are now married! Whoo! The wedding was lovely, even if it rained, and it was obvious to everyone that those two belong together. Mary got teary when Steph was walking down the aisle, and someone said that even Terence got emotional too! Mindy in a dress and fancy hairdoo is quite rare (she was a bridesmaid, so she had to dress like that), but she's still the crazy Mindy we know and love! And the dance in the evening rocked! Lisa caught the bouquet and Kurtiss caught the garter, and started doing a little stripper dance right before putting it on her leg! I ended up dancing with 3 guys that night - Terence, Luke, and Dan. I hadn't seen Dan in forever, he lives in Ottawa now. At the end of the party, I freaked out because my wallet wasn't in my purse, but then I remembered I took it out at home before going to the dance because it was taking up too much space (the sparkly purse I had is smaller than the one I usually use). Stupid me... But aside from that, everything was fun and everyone had a great time. Congrats, Jason and Steph!

I got my Harry Potter patches and sewed them onto my purse. I bought it at the flea market for $3 and got the patches from an internet store. People who saw it said it looks like an authentic Hogwarts purse with the patches on - a Griffindor one on the front, and a Hogwarts one on the back.

I bought a second-hand bike recently for $70. Now that dance season is over and I'm taking a break from Pilates till September, that's becoming one of my main forms of exercise. It's fun, except I still have leg cramps from riding it yesterday.

I rented Billy Eliott recently, and loved it. People who think male dancers are gay need to see this movie. Billy is a boy who loves ballet with a passion, and he's not gay, or a sissy. His father is cruel to him at first because of the "gay male dancer" stereotype, but eventually he accepts this and encourages Billy to pursue what he loves. I also rented The Company, and that one was good too. The dancers were amazing, and though I preferred the dancing in Center Stage, I totally recommend it to anyone who likes dance movies. I have a few "rent 2 movies for the price of 1" coupons for That's Entertaiment, so that's why I've been renting so many movies lately. This week, I got Mambo Italiano (that one is so friggin' funny!) and Shall We Dance (haven't watched it yet).

So You Think You Can Dance is back! Well, it's been back for a few weeks now, but I haven't updated in a while and missed a few episodes, so I couldn't do a proper review. Well, the show is awesome and the new host is better than plastic lady who hosted last year's show (frig, why do some people think we don't notice when they've had that much plastic surgery?). The dancers are good, and I am totally in love with Dmitry. When I saw him with his shirt open on tonight's episode, I was like "WHOOO TAKE YER SHIRT OFF!!!!!!!!" Again like last year, it's mostly the same dances with a few new ones once in a while, but I liked them. Here's what I thought of each couple on tonight's show:

Ashlee and Ben (Hip-Hop) - She is an awesome hip-hopper and while he isn't as good as she is, he pulled it off. It was obvious she was in her element, and they both did great. As for last week's show, I loved that swing dance they did, and even though neither were in their element and had never done swing, their dance was fun and they rocked the dance floor.

Heidi and Ryan (Cuban Rumba)
- They were so friggin' amazing! The choreography rocked, and their dancing was awesome. The part where he was "beating her bongos" was so funny, but it went perfectly well with that type of dance. Basically, the guy tries to get the girl's attention, she turns away but then she wants him too, and they portrayed that perfectly.

Aleksandra and Dmitry (Waltz) - Dmitry is a show-stopper no matter what he dances. But he always ends up with a partner who lets him down. Joy wasn't that great, and while Aleksandra was better, she couldn't measure up to him. I loved the waltz tonight, but he was definitely a better dancer than she was.

Allison and Ivan (Argentine Tango)
- When they got that dance I was thinking "Frig, I can't see that little pipsqueak doing the Argentine tango!" (I was referring to Ivan) and I would have preferred real tango music rather than that watered-down version, but the dancing was great. Ivan seemed a lot more mature than I expected, and Allison was good too. The dance was intense, and passionate, and they worked really well with each other.

Natalie and Musa (Quickstep) - Last week, they totally impressed me with the contemporary dance - they totally nailed it and I found that Musa was really good for someone with no formal training. They had great chemistry, and their dance was so passionate. But this week, they weren't as impressive. Ballroom isn't really their thing, and while they weren't horrible, they didn't do near as well as many of the other couples. But also, from what the judges were saying, Musa seems really gung-ho about learning these new dances, and what he lacks in technique, he makes up for in determination, which is an awesome attitude.

Donyelle and Benji (Pop Jazz) - Those two have great chemistry together and work great as partners. Donyelle was the perfect diva, and Benji did great as the guy who wants her. I enjoyed this dance more than the cha-cha they did last week. It wasn't as cheesy as some other pop numbers, and they both had passion for what they were doing.

Jessica and Jaymz (Contemporary) - They're both talented dancers, and even though the choreographyer said that Jaymz is a "competition kid" with bad hands and flimsy arms, I didn't think he was like that at all in this dance. He actually seemed quite powerful and both he and Jessica had good stage presence. They weren't the best of the night, but I liked their number.

Martha and Travis (Hip-Hop)
- Not horrible, but not that great either. Their styles of hip-hop didn't really match and Travis' dancing sometimes looked like spasms. Martha was better than he was, and even if he managed to pull it off, I think they'll end up in the bottom 3. But it was hilarious when the judges were commenting and Travis said in a stereotypical-gay-guy voice "America forgets, I do a fan kick!" Priceless!

Anyway, that's all for now!

Movies galore!

I finally got my Harry Potter wand in the mail! I should be getting my Hogwarts and Griffindor patches (to sew onto my purse) any day now... Oooh, and I thought of another HP theory having to do with the destruction of Voldemort's horcruxes - remember the veil in the death room of the Department of Mysteries that took Sirius away? Well, what if one of the horcruxes happened to fall beyond that veil...

So You Think You Can Dance is back! Whoo! Can't wait to see the dancers this year! Though Nick Lazzarini (last year's winner) is a tough act to beat... we'll see if anyone can match up!

Jason and Steph are gettin' hitched in a few weeks, yay! Out of all the couples in my group of friends, I knew they'd be the first to tie the knot!

I rented Maria Full of Grace recently, and it's now officially on my list of favorite movies. Mo-Peep recommended it. Frig, that movie was intense... I don't understand why some people don't like independent film or movies in foreign languages with subtitles. They don't know what they're missing! Some of the best movies ever made are foreign films with subtitles - aside from Maria Llena de Gracia (Spanish, from Columbia) there's also Life is Beautiful (Italian) and Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amélie Poulain (French). A few years ago, I took a class at UPEI in French Literature and Film - we read French classics and watched the movie versions. That's partly how I learned to be so picky when it comes to books being made into movies - in that class we had to pick out all the differences and stuff, while also analyzing the themes and concepts presented in both the books and the films. In that class, my faves were Madame Bovary and Cyrano de Bergerac. And in my Spanish class, we watched Camila (movie from Argentina) - though one scene was a little too graphic, the rest of the movie was brilliant. Foreign-language films rock!

Does Harry Potter count as foreign film? After all, it's from another country (UK). Strictly Ballroom is Australian, so I think that one counts too. I'm dying to rent Billy Eliott - the British movie about the little boy who loves ballet.

I've decided not to see The Davinci Code at the movie theatre. I'll rent it when it comes out on video/DVD. Apparently it's getting a lot of bad reviews and since movie tickets are so friggin' expensive, I'd rather wait and pay the cheaper price to rent it.
